World Rainforest Day
June 22 · Level 8 · #620 of 2238

Tropical rainforests are the planet's great storehouses of life, and this day is a reminder that they need protecting. It invites people to learn about the jungle and how losing it affects the climate and everyone who depends on it.
How it is celebrated: schools and conservation groups run lessons, exhibitions and online events, while nature fans plant trees and donate to forest protection. Plenty of people simply pick certified timber, paper and food for the day.
Rainforests cover only about six percent of the planet's land, yet they are home to more than half of its plant and animal species. The largest of them is the Amazon, most of which lies in Brazil.
