World Bathing Day

This is a day for warm water, steam and slowing down. It reminds us that bathing is about more than getting clean: it is also a way to unwind and reset, whether in a bathhouse, a hot spring or your own tub.

How it is celebrated: some people head to a sauna, spa or hammam, others travel to hot springs, and plenty just run a bath at home with candles and a good playlist. A pool or hot-spring trip also makes a nice outing with colleagues.

In Japan, soaking in natural hot springs, called onsen, is a tradition that goes back many centuries, and people travel across the country just to do it. Almost every culture has its own bathing ritual, from the Finnish sauna to the Russian banya with a birch whisk.
