World Post Day
October 9 · Level 8 · #485 of 2238
World Post Day celebrates the network that carries letters and parcels between people and businesses. It marks the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union's founding in Bern in 1874 and highlights the work behind everyday deliveries.
How it is celebrated: postal services organise stamp exhibitions, tours and events with staff. Some issue commemorative stamps or explain how an item travels from the sender to its destination.
The Universal Postal Union is older than the United Nations: it had already been operating for more than seventy years when the UN was founded.
