Special Fire Protection Service Day in Russia
October 9 · Level 10 · #80 of 2238
This Russian observance honours the emergency ministry's specialist firefighters who protect particularly important and restricted-access sites. Their work combines firefighting skills with detailed knowledge of complex industrial facilities and the hazards specific to each location.
How it is celebrated: units hold formal gatherings, present awards and congratulate veterans. Former staff share their experience, and commemorative events honour colleagues who died on duty.
Some of the facilities they protect belong to the nuclear industry, where responding to a fire requires understanding the plant's processes as well as the flames and smoke.
