World Nature Conservation Day

World Nature Conservation Day is a reminder that forests, rivers, oceans and the creatures living in them are not endless, and that looking after them works best as a team effort. It is a good moment to ask how our everyday habits affect the planet.

How it is celebrated: people plant trees, clean up riverbanks and city parks, join local environmental campaigns, and hold lessons or chats at schools and workplaces about using resources wisely.

The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, which has been compiled since 1964, assesses the extinction risk of many thousands of species and is one of the world's main reference points for conservationists.
