World Misophonia Awareness Day

Misophonia is a strong emotional reaction to certain everyday sounds, like chewing, pen clicking or tapping. This day exists so that people who live with it are believed more often and get more understanding.

How it is celebrated: people share their stories online and at support meetings, swap tips that help, such as headphones, background music and quiet corners, and friends and relatives practise not saying "just ignore it".

The name is built from two Greek roots: miso means "hatred" and phonia means "sound". Put together, it is literally "hatred of sound".
