Diplomatic Service Employees' Day in Azerbaijan
July 9 · Level 3 · #1650 of 2238
This is the professional day of Azerbaijani diplomats, consular officers and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is a moment for the country to thank the people who speak for it abroad and defend its interests.
How it is celebrated: ceremonial meetings are held at the ministry and in embassies, awards go to veteran and young officers alike, and colleagues swap stories of famous negotiations and welcome back former heads of the service.
Azerbaijan joined the United Nations in March 1992, soon after restoring its independence, so its young diplomatic corps had to build ties with dozens of countries almost from scratch.
