World Meteorological Day

World Meteorological Day celebrates the science and services that help us understand weather, climate and water. Forecasting does much more than settle the umbrella question: it supports farming, aviation and preparations for dangerous weather.

How it is celebrated: weather services host talks, exhibitions and opportunities to meet their experts. The World Meteorological Organization chooses an annual theme to guide public events and educational activities.

The date marks an institutional milestone rather than a weather record: the convention establishing the World Meteorological Organization entered into force on this day in 1950.
