World Laziness Day

World Laziness Day is an informal excuse to step away from the to-do list and enjoy some unhurried time. Its playful premise makes room for a day that does not need to produce anything impressive: doing very little can be the whole plan.

How it is celebrated: people share jokes about laziness, relax and put off non-essential chores. In the Colombian city of Itagüí, street celebrations are known for bringing beds and hammocks into public spaces.

The Itagüí celebration gives laziness a surprisingly energetic setting: a communal street event. Before everyone can settle down together, somebody has to organise the festivities and move the furniture.
