World Emoji Day
July 17 · Level 6 · #1024 of 2238
World Emoji Day celebrates the tiny pictures that bring tone and personality to digital conversations. A smile, a coffee cup or a well-chosen octopus can give a short message an extra layer of meaning.
How it is celebrated: people share favorite emoji and write picture-filled messages, while technology companies showcase new designs. Differences in how the same emoji appears across devices also become a talking point.
The date comes from Apple's calendar emoji, which displays July 17. Emojipedia founder Jeremy Burge created the celebration in 2014.
