Constitution Day in South Korea

South Korea's Constitution Day commemorates the promulgation of the country's first constitution in 1948. It is an occasion to reflect on republican government, citizens' rights and the principles that guide the exercise of state power.

How it is celebrated: official ceremonies and speeches explore the constitution's significance. National flags are displayed on buildings and outside homes, and educational activities introduce the country's constitutional history.

The constitution came before the republic's formal inauguration. The document was promulgated in July, while the ceremony establishing the Republic of Korea followed in August that same year.
