World Day of War Orphans

On 6 January people remember children who have lost parents in armed conflicts. The day draws attention to their needs: safety, a home, care and a chance to go to school.

How it is celebrated: charities run fundraisers and awareness campaigns, schools and volunteers hold meetings and lessons about peace, and people support children's homes.

The Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 already requires that children orphaned by war be cared for and given the means to continue their education.
