Sherlock Holmes's Birthday
January 6 · Level 5 · #1194 of 2238
On 6 January fans toast the birthday of the world's most famous consulting detective from Baker Street. Arthur Conan Doyle's creation has long been treated as a real person.
How it is celebrated: readers reopen the stories, watch adaptations, meet in Sherlockian societies, and hold quizzes and Victorian-style evenings.
In the story His Last Bow, Holmes is about sixty in 1914, which is where the birth year 1854 comes from. The date of 6 January was chosen later by students of his life.
