World Day of Slowness

This is a day to step out of the rat race and live at an easy pace. The idea grew out of the slow-living movement, which asks us to pay attention to what we do rather than just get it done fast.

How it is celebrated: people mute notifications, take long lunches, wander without a goal and put off whatever can wait. Some hold unhurried family dinners or phone-free get-togethers.

The Cittaslow network of slow towns uses a snail carrying a town on its shell as its symbol. It began in 1999 in the Italian town of Greve in Chianti.
