World Croc Day
June 17 · Level 10 · #109 of 2238
Crocodiles are among the oldest predators on Earth, and this day invites people to see them as animals worth protecting, not just fearing. Several species still need help to survive.
How it is celebrated: zoos and reserves hold open days, talks and keeper-led feeding sessions, while schools run drawing contests and craft workshops about the toothy reptiles.
Crocodile ancestors shared the planet with dinosaurs. The saltwater crocodile is the largest living reptile, and adult males can grow longer than five metres.
