International Cat Day

International Cat Day celebrates the cats who share our homes and draws attention to those still waiting for one. It puts their welfare first: good food, a safe environment and respect for feline habits matter just as much as affection.

How it is celebrated: shelters introduce cats available for adoption, animal charities seek support, and owners share pet photos. At home, a little playtime is a fitting tribute, provided your cat is in the mood.

The International Fund for Animal Welfare launched the day in 2002. Behind all those adorable pictures is an animal-welfare campaign.
