World Cancer Day

World Cancer Day brings attention to cancer prevention, timely diagnosis and access to care. It also makes room for patients and families to be heard, reminding us that the subject reaches far beyond hospitals and research laboratories.

How it is celebrated: health organizations run public information campaigns, educational events and fundraisers. Patients share their experiences, while advocates highlight inequalities that affect people’s chances of receiving care.

The observance traces its beginning to the Charter of Paris Against Cancer, signed at a world summit in 2000. The charter itself established the annual day.
