UNICEF Birthday
December 11 · Level 6 · #1072 of 2238

On 11 December people mark the birthday of UNICEF, the United Nations agency that works for children. It helps kids around the world get health care, education and protection.
How it is celebrated: schools and volunteers organise charity drives, lessons about children's rights and drawing contests. Many people also share stories online about how a bit of help can change a child's life.
The UN General Assembly created the fund in 1946 as the International Children's Emergency Fund, to help children in war-torn Europe. In 1953 it became a permanent part of the UN and kept the famous short name.
