Russian Rescuer's Day

This is a professional day for people who are the first to arrive when there are fires, floods, accidents and other emergencies. It is held on 27 December, in memory of the creation of the Russian Rescue Corps.

How it is celebrated: there are ceremonial gatherings and awards, and flowers are laid in memory of fallen colleagues. Units hold open days and demonstrations, and children happily try on a rescuer's helmet.

The Russian Rescue Corps was created on 27 December 1990, and that is the date chosen for the holiday. It was headed by Sergey Shoigu.
