Paper Snowflake Day

This is an informal creative day for anyone who likes cutting patterns out of paper. It is a reminder that winter decorations can be made at home in a few minutes.

How it is celebrated: people fold a sheet of paper several times, snip out a pattern with scissors and unfold it. The snowflakes decorate windows, walls and trees. Schools and libraries run workshops, and in an office a contest for the prettiest one makes a good team game.

A real snowflake has six arms, while many paper ones end up with eight, because the sheet is folded in half and then again. So the paper version is a little less accurate than the real thing, but a lot easier to hang on a window.
