Penguin Awareness Day
January 20 · Level 3 · #1637 of 2238
Penguin Awareness Day invites people to look beyond the familiar waddle and discover remarkable seabirds. It also draws attention to threats such as pollution, changing habitats and dwindling food supplies.
How it is celebrated: zoos and conservation groups share penguin stories, run educational activities and encourage support for habitat protection. Watching a documentary or learning to recognise different species is another way to join in.
Penguins are not all ice dwellers. Galápagos penguins live around the equator, and some venture into the Northern Hemisphere.
