Oyster Day
August 5 · Level 3 · #1713 of 2238

A day for oysters, the shellfish people have been eating since ancient times. To some they are an elegant delicacy, to others a brave challenge.
How it is celebrated: fans head to oyster bars and restaurants and enjoy them fresh on the half shell with lemon or a tangy vinegar and shallot sauce. Those who shy away from raw oysters try them baked or fried instead.
Oysters are natural water filters: a single adult can pass tens of litres of water through its body in a day. That is why oyster reefs help keep coastal bays cleaner.
