Day of Unplugging
March 5 · Level 2 · #1998 of 2238

Day of Unplugging invites people to put screens aside and give their attention to the world within reach. A voluntary break from digital routines creates room for conversation, hobbies and noticing how often a notification interrupts an ordinary day.
How it is celebrated: participants switch devices off or put them away for an agreed period. Walks, printed books, board games and face-to-face gatherings take the place of scrolling and checking messages.
One well-known unplugging initiative drew inspiration from Shabbat, the Jewish weekly day of rest. The modern practice of taking a technology break has a much older source of inspiration.
