Ninja Day
December 5 · Level 9 · #277 of 2238
Ninja Day is a playful, unofficial date for fans of Japanese culture, action films, comics and video games. It celebrates the mysterious shinobi, who have long been pop-culture heroes.
How it is celebrated: fans put on dark costumes, binge ninja movies, play stealth games and throw themed parties. Some martial arts and dance studios offer one-off workshops, and the more careful fans try out foam or paper throwing stars.
Real shinobi worked in feudal Japan, and the best-known collection of their lore is the Bansenshukai, compiled in 1676. The tradition links them above all with the Iga and Koka regions.
