International Volunteer Day
December 5 · Level 10 · #196 of 2238
International Volunteer Day says thank you to people who give their time to help others, animals and the environment. Its aim is to show that volunteering makes communities stronger.
How it is celebrated: organisations thank their volunteers, run clean-ups, collection drives and blood donation days, and newcomers drop in to see how they can join. Many people simply pick one good deed and do it together with friends or colleagues.
The UN General Assembly established the day in 1985. The United Nations Volunteers programme, which coordinates it, was created in 1970 and is based in Bonn, Germany.
