Newtonmas is a playful holiday for science fans, held on the birthday of Isaac Newton. It gives physics lovers another excuse for a winter party.
How it is celebrated: friends and colleagues gather around a table, swap science books and experiment kits, and make jokes about apples and gravity.
Newton was born on 25 December 1642 by the Julian calendar, which England still used at the time. In the modern Gregorian calendar that day is 4 January 1643.
