Christmas According to the Revised Julian Calendar
December 25 · Level 4 · #1554 of 2238

This is Christmas Day, kept on 25 December by the Orthodox churches that follow the Revised Julian calendar. For them it falls on the same date as Christmas in the West.
How it is celebrated: believers attend the festive liturgy, families sit down to a table after the Nativity fast, and carols ring out in churches and town squares. In Greece, Romania, Bulgaria and Cyprus the day is a public holiday.
The Revised Julian calendar was devised by the Serbian scientist Milutin Milanković and taken up at a congress in Constantinople in 1923. It matches the Gregorian calendar until the year 2800, so the dates will not drift apart for a very long time.
