National Potato Day in Peru

Peru's National Potato Day celebrates a food deeply rooted in the country's cooking and cultural heritage. It also recognises the farmers who grow traditional Andean varieties and keep that agricultural diversity alive.

How it is celebrated: agricultural fairs, tastings and food festivals showcase potatoes and their producers. Chefs prepare dishes that reveal how varieties differ in flavour, colour and texture, giving a familiar staple plenty of room to surprise.

Peruvian potatoes can have red or purple flesh as well as white or yellow interiors. Generations of farmers have helped preserve this colourful range of native varieties.
