International Chess Day
July 20 · Level 7 · #745 of 2238
International Chess Day brings together fans of a game where every move can change the story. The chess community has celebrated it since 1966, choosing the anniversary of the International Chess Federation’s founding as its shared occasion.
How it is celebrated: players organise friendly tournaments, beginner lessons and simultaneous exhibitions. A casual game with a friend or teaching someone how the pieces move can be part of the celebration too.
In a simultaneous exhibition, one player faces several opponents on separate boards, moving from game to game. Each opponent has a whole board to focus on; the visiting player has many.
