International Bird Day
April 1 · Level 6 · #1101 of 2238
International Bird Day celebrates birds and draws attention to the habitats they need for feeding, nesting and migration. It is also a reason to pause outside and discover which neighbours are singing above your head.
How it is celebrated: schools, museums and conservation groups arrange birdwatching walks and educational activities. Participants put up nest boxes suited to local species and learn how to support birds without disturbing them.
The Arctic tern travels between the Arctic and Antarctic, following summer from one hemisphere to the other. For this small seabird, crossing much of the planet is a recurring part of life.
