Kuwait National Day
February 25 · Level 10 · #181 of 2238
Kuwait National Day celebrates the country’s independence and statehood. Its date marks the accession of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, the ruler under whom Kuwait became independent.
How it is celebrated: flags and lighting in the national colours decorate streets and buildings. People attend concerts and public festivities, families head out to enjoy the decorations, and Kuwaiti flags appear on cars across the country.
Independence actually came in June 1961. The celebration was moved to February partly because of the intense summer heat, making the cooler season a much more comfortable setting for outdoor festivities.
