International Violin Day
December 13 · Level 6 · #901 of 2238

On 13 December musicians and music lovers raise a bow to the violin, one of the most expressive instruments ever made. Its voice is often compared to a human one, and it sings in classical concerts, folk tunes and pop songs alike.
How it is celebrated: violinists give concerts, busk on city streets and play in schools, while listeners put on their favourite recordings. Beginners sometimes book a first lesson or simply read up on how the instrument came to be.
A violin has just four strings, tuned in perfect fifths to G, D, A and E. The classical violin is tied to the Italian city of Cremona, home of the makers Amati, Stradivari and Guarneri.
