Bear Day
December 13 · Level 1 · #2019 of 2238

Bear Day is a tribute to the most recognisable animal of the northern forests: its strength, its starring roles in folk tales and the need to protect its home. It is also a nice excuse to look at how brown bears spend the winter.
How it is celebrated: zoos and nature reserves tell visitors about bear life, children draw bears and read stories, and plenty of teddy bears get an outing at home.
Brown bears hibernate in dens, and that is where their cubs are born, weighing only about half a kilogram each. Russia is home to more brown bears than any other country.
