International Thank You Day
January 11 · Level 1 · #2157 of 2238

International Thank You Day is an informal reminder to acknowledge kindness that might otherwise slip by unnoticed. Help with a difficult task deserves thanks, but so does a small everyday gesture, such as bringing someone a cup of tea.
How it is celebrated: people send appreciative messages, write cards and thank friends, colleagues and teachers in person. Schools and libraries may use the occasion for activities about courtesy and recognizing the people who help us.
The Russian word for thank you, spasibo, developed from a phrase meaning “God save you.” An everyday expression of gratitude began as a blessing for the person receiving it.
