International Paget's Awareness Day
January 11 · Level 2 · #1939 of 2238

Paget's disease is a long-term bone condition in which the skeleton renews itself too quickly, leaving some bones misshapen and fragile. This day spreads the word, because many people have never heard of it.
How it is celebrated: patient groups and doctors share information leaflets, hold meetings and online talks, and people post their own stories. The main message is simple: if bone pain lingers, get it checked.
The disease is named after British surgeon Sir James Paget, who described it in 1877. It most often affects the pelvis, spine, skull and leg bones.
