International Sushi Day

International Sushi Day is an informal celebration of a Japanese food with fans around the world. It is an invitation to explore different ingredients and discover how many shapes a serving of seasoned rice can take.

How it is celebrated: people visit sushi restaurants, arrange tastings at home and learn to roll maki. Restaurants offer special menus or promotions, while home cooks share recipes and the results of their experiments.

Sushi is defined by its vinegar-seasoned rice, rather than by raw fish. It can contain vegetables or cooked ingredients; slices of raw fish served without that rice are sashimi.
