International Snow Leopard Day
October 23 · Level 4 · #1426 of 2238
International Snow Leopard Day focuses on protecting this elusive mountain cat and its habitat. Its future depends on conserving mountain ecosystems and working with the communities that share its home.
How it is celebrated: conservation organisations, museums and zoos offer talks, exhibitions and activities for children. Researchers share insights from fieldwork, while fundraising campaigns support wildlife protection and cooperation with local communities.
A snow leopard’s long, fluffy tail does more than help it balance on rocky ground. At rest, the cat can wrap it around its face like a warm scarf.
