International Plain Language Day
October 13 · Level 3 · #1736 of 2238

This day champions clear, readable language in official documents, laws, instructions and letters. The goal is that readers understand what is expected of them the first time through.
How it is celebrated: lawyers, civil servants, editors and teachers hold workshops and contests, rewrite tangled documents and share examples of texts done well.
In October 2010 the US president signed the Plain Writing Act, which requires federal agencies to write public documents in language citizens can easily follow.
