International Louie Louie Day
April 11 · Level 8 · #564 of 2238
This day is for "Louie Louie", one of the great anthems of garage rock. Richard Berry wrote it in 1955, and the 1963 version by The Kingsmen turned it into a worldwide hit.
How it is celebrated: radio stations spin the song, amateur bands tackle its easy chords, and party guests sing along at the top of their voices, even though hardly anyone knows what the words really are.
The FBI spent about two years investigating whether the Kingsmen recording hid obscene lyrics. The agents could not make out the words, and the case was closed.
