International Jeweller's Day

International Jeweller's Day recognises the craftspeople who turn metal and gemstones into wearable art. This informal professional occasion celebrates the design, precision and patient handwork hidden inside something as small as a ring or a clasp.

How it is celebrated: colleagues and customers congratulate jewellers, while workshops showcase their creations and explain how they are made. Exhibitions and demonstrations introduce visitors to metalworking tools and the delicate task of setting stones.

A gemstone's carat measures its mass, not its dimensions: one carat equals 0.2 grams. Two stones with the same carat weight can therefore look quite different in size.
