International Choreographer Day
January 9 · Level 7 · #795 of 2238

International Choreographer Day honours the people who invent dances: the ones who shape ballets, musicals and stage numbers one movement at a time. It is a nod to the idea hiding behind every step you see on stage.
How it is celebrated: dance studios and theatres host open classes, meetings with choreographers and showcase evenings, and students say thank you to their teachers.
The word choreography is built from two Greek roots, khoreia for dance and graphein for to write, so it literally means writing the dance.
