International Children's Book Day
April 2 · Level 3 · #1590 of 2238
On this day the world celebrates children's reading and the idea that every child deserves a good book. The date is the birthday of the Danish storyteller Hans Christian Andersen, born in 1805.
How it is celebrated: libraries and schools host read-aloud sessions, visits from authors and illustrators, book swaps and drawing contests inspired by favourite stories.
The day has been run since 1967 by the International Board on Books for Young People. Each year a different national section of the organisation writes a message to children and commissions an artist to design the poster.
