Estonian Independence Day
February 24 · Level 9 · #355 of 2238

Estonian Independence Day commemorates the proclamation of the republic in 1918. It is a central celebration of Estonian statehood and a chance to reflect on the country’s path to self-government.
How it is celebrated: ceremonial flag-raising brings out the blue, black and white national colours, followed by a military parade and commemorative events. Families share festive meals, and television broadcasts include a concert, the president’s address and the presidential reception.
Estonia has a second independence celebration on 20 August. February marks the republic’s founding; August remembers the restoration of independence in 1991.
