Eggnog Day
December 24 · Level 6 · #982 of 2238

A day for the thick, creamy drink that no Western Christmas is quite complete without. It is made from milk, cream, sugar and beaten eggs.
How it is celebrated: people whisk up a batch at home or buy a carton, dust it with nutmeg and serve it on Christmas Eve. Adults often add rum, brandy or bourbon, while kids get a non-alcoholic cup.
On Christmas night in 1826, cadets at the US Military Academy at West Point smuggled in whiskey for their eggnog, and the party turned into a brawl remembered as the Eggnog Riot.
