Orthodox Book Day

Orthodox Book Day invites readers to explore the literature of Orthodox Christianity, from worship texts to books about faith, history and moral choices. Established by the Russian Orthodox Church, it also recognises the work of authors, printers and others who bring these books to readers.

How it is celebrated: libraries, parishes and cultural venues organise exhibitions, readings and meetings with writers. Book collections support libraries and charitable organisations.

The date recalls the publication of the Apostol by Ivan Fyodorov and Pyotr Mstislavets in 1564. It is the earliest precisely dated printed book produced in Moscow.
