This is the professional day of Kyrgyzstan's state guard officers, who protect the country's top officials and key state sites. On this day the country says thank you to people whose best work usually goes unnoticed.
How it is celebrated: there are solemn ceremonies where awards and letters of thanks are handed out, and both veterans and serving officers are congratulated by colleagues and senior figures. Demonstrations of the guards' training are often part of the programme.
The job is nearly invisible from the outside: the calmer an official meeting or a big state event runs, the better the people in charge of security have done their work.
