Cliché Day
November 3 · Level 2 · #2014 of 2238

Cliché Day is a tongue-in-cheek celebration of worn-out phrases and images such as "time will tell" and "better late than never". It reminds us how easily we reach for ready-made lines, and invites us to laugh about it.
How it is celebrated: people hunt for clichés in conversations, adverts and films, keep a tally of the most overused expressions and try to say the same thing in a fresh way. A team can play a game where every cliché spoken costs a forfeit.
The word cliché is French and first meant a printing plate used to make copies. It is believed to imitate the sound of the matrix striking molten metal.
