Blessing of the Bicycles in the United States
May 3 · Level 1 · #2209 of 2238
Bicycle blessings in the United States bring a wish for safe journeys into the cycling community. These are local events hosted by individual religious congregations, with dates that vary rather than one nationwide observance.
How it is celebrated: riders bring their bicycles to a short service where a member of the clergy offers a blessing for the road ahead. Some communities add a group ride or a conversation about cycling safely.
Even large cathedrals have hosted bicycle blessings. An everyday bike can find itself near the altar, with a cycling helmet perfectly at home among the congregation.
