Azerbaijan Armed Forces Day
June 26 · Level 9 · #259 of 2238
Azerbaijan honours its service members and the history of its national armed forces. The occasion looks back to military formations established by the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918 and recognises the armed forces' role in defending the country.
How it is celebrated: ceremonies, concerts and award presentations honour military personnel. Flowers are laid at memorials to the fallen, with major military parades held for milestone anniversaries.
The historical event behind the holiday was the decision to establish the Separate Azerbaijani Corps, taken shortly after the first republic declared independence.
