Arctic Day

Arctic Day

Arctic Day is a reminder of the planet's far north: its fragile nature, the scientists who work there and the peoples who live beyond the Arctic Circle. It is a chance to talk about how to protect this icy region while developing it wisely.

How it is celebrated: schools and libraries run lessons and exhibitions about the Arctic, researchers give open lectures, and museums and Indigenous cultural centres hold film screenings, craft fairs and folk concerts.

The Arctic Ocean is the smallest and shallowest of Earth's oceans, and the North Pole sits not on land but in the middle of drifting sea ice.
